I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This is at no extra cost to you.
2018 was amazing and wonderful and at times stressful!
I hit the big 3-0 and am finally starting to feel old. Like when I see snapchat pictures plastered all over my Facebook and my main reaction is “Why?” Or that people use words like “lit” and “on fleek” and I am still stuck on “cray-cray”.
I lost a bunch of weight and then gained it all back. Sad face. I wish I had the mad Photoshop skills to magically thin myself down. But alas. Since you can all see it anyways I gotta be straight with you. I struggle with eating gargantuan proportions of everything. Relate much?
Of course, I have been working hard on blogging. I switched from Intrepid Bliss to my new home here at Mom Made Chic and love it. Deciding to make that change has really helped me to narrow down my brand and reinvigorate my passion for blogging.
Dave is hitting it hard at the gym and looking mighty swole (see, I can still be hip.) He has also been getting interested in real estate investing and has dabbled in wholesaling in his spare time.
Octavia turned 2 this year and is obsessed with Pinkalicious. She knows how to get to Youtube in 10 seconds flat on my phone. I can’t even do that! Ocki is starting to get social and wants to play with friends all the time. She has also taken an interest in cooking and I am so excited to teach her.
Jean-Luc turned one this year. His first word was Sis-sis, followed by dine-sore. He also now says shoe and din-steer (down stairs). You can really tell where his heart is. Mom and Dad are not part of his vocabulary yet.
As you can see he has a giant shiner on his head. He has figured out how to open the gate at the top of the stairs. Dave installed a banister at his level that he does not use. He has taken a tumble or two and given his poor parents a few heart attacks! We now have a padlock on the baby gate but it is only a matter of time before he figures that out too. He is a lot more adventurous than Ocki ever was and keeps me on my toes.
We also had our second litter of boxer puppies. So cute but also A LOT of hard work. Let me know in the comments if you’d like to hear more about that.
All in all, not a bad year.
Now that we have officially rung in the new year it is time for this girl to set some goals! I think the key is to find the right balance between ambitious and do-able. With that in mind I have 3 big goals for this year.
No New Year’s resolution list would be complete without a goal to lose weight or get healthy. I was doing amazing with my weight for the first half of last year but 2018 part 2 I got lazy and my weight is starting to creep up to more than I am comfortable with.
I am hovering around 140 right now (I’m 5’2). This is as heavy as I have ever been not counting pregnancy. I did weigh this much a few years ago but have never been heavier and don’t want to get heavier!
My goal is to get to and maintain a weight of 115 with a stretch goal of 105.
The plan is to do a lower carb diet. So skip the rice with my stir fry, swap out regular pasta for bean pasta (but try to limit this to once a week or every other week, etc. I’m not going to go keto or atkins levels most of the time but just make an effort to make smarter choices when it comes to carbs as I actually find myself more hungry after eating them.
I’m also going to be aiming for 1200-1400 calories a day.
Quality Activities with the Kids
I find that during the summer we go to the park almost everyday and we love it! But I struggle with doing constructive activities during the colder parts of the year we don’t get out much and the kids get a little more screen time.
So my second big goal is to plan more structured activities.
I’ve been wanting to put Ocki in a gymnastics class once she turns 3 and that is coming up fast.
I also want to do more crafts with the kids.
Now I am not a crafty person. I will occasionally get ambitions to do a craft and will spend tons of money and time and end up with an UGLY result. Not to mention that I ended up spending more than it would have cost to just go out and buy what I wanted.
That being said I think that providing that sort of fun, creative project will be beneficial to Ocki and Jean-Luc.
Now that I’ve got this site up and functional I am ready to dive in making consistent content.
Ideally I would love to do 3 posts a week: Makeup/Beauty Monday, Weigh in Wednesday, and Fashion Friday. Life is busy with two toddlers so I think I can realistically only commit to 1 post a week. I’m not saying I’ll never have more than one (in fact I really hope that will happen a lot!) I just don’t want to make a promise I can’t deliver.
I am also going to be getting more active on Facebook, Youtube, and Pinterest in the coming months after I get into a good routine with posting. Right now I am only active on Instagram but am ready to expand.
Last year I took a big break from doing sponsored posts. Say what?!? Take a break from getting awesome free product?
Remember earlier where I mentioned that we had boxer puppies? This was our second litter and I knew from experience that I would have no time for sponsored content. In fact I had almost no time for making any content at all. But while I was not creating I was thinking about blogging ALL THE TIME! It was at this time that I decided to rebrand which further delayed new content as I made a whole new website. But it has been so worth it!
Now this mamma would love to see a little $$$$ coming in for all her efforts. I mean honestly, I have been blogging for a long time without getting paid because I love it! Seriously so addicting. So even if I don’t make a penny this year I’m going to stick with it but it does feel pretty validating when companies want to compensate you for your work. Plus being able to get my hands on products I didn’t know about or wouldn’t have been able to afford really helps inspire new content and you guys get to hear about all the stuff too!
If you guys are interested in hearing more about the behind the scenes of my blog please let me know!
What are your big goals for the New Year? I’d love to hear and remember to subscribe to stay in touch! Best of luck 2019!!!
